Coco Beach, the Town

Coco Beach , or Playas del Coco, was originally a fishing village. It is one of the oldest coastal communities in Guanacaste province. In fact, many families that make their living by fishing still live on the south end of the beach. Many tourists enjoy watching the fishermen as they bring home the catch of the day. Today Coco Beach is one of the most popular vacation destinations in Costa Rica because it is more than a lovely tropical beach.

Coco Beach itself is a flat, dark-grey sand beach, with water so pure that divers and snorkelers have 60 feet underwater visibility on good days. Coco Beach is widely recognized as a premier diving, snorkeling and surfing destination. Sportfishing, kayaking, and sailing are also popular. Coco Bay is a horseshoe shaped bay, good for keeping boats, some of which you will see dotting the bay.

From Coco Beach you can easily reach more than three other beaches: Hermosa, Panama, and Ocotal, all in less than 12 minutes, making it a great base from which to move around. Coco Beach is located only 20 minutes, or 40km away from the Daniel Oduber International Airport in Liberia, the capital of Guanacaste province. Vistamarina is within walking distance from Coco Beach.
